Basel wants to become a solar city

  • Five variations of photovoltaics
  • Let the architects have their say
  • The political and planning background

Proof of Basel’s courage in tackling solar technology is not only the new Office for the Environment and Energy building, to which the entire issue of Solaris #06 was dedicated. This publication reveals the existence of other noteworthy buildings in and around Basel that generate electricity from the sun. They are renovations and new buildings of different sizes and destinations of use, with different ways of conceiving the use of solar technology: photovoltaic facades that instill a sense of austerity, detachment or new lightness, a solar roof with a symbolic value or, again, a futuristic multimedia membrane that self-generates the energy it needs. Five contemporary and very dissimilar buildings are presented.

The publication is not available in English, but is available in German, French and Italian as a print or PDF version.
