The Perspective Shift: A Training Workshop on BIPV as a Construction Element
Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is reshaping the way buildings are designed, turning solar technologies into integral construction elements. The next SOL(AR)CHITECTURE Essentials course, taking place in Rotterdam on 18–19 September 2026, offers an interactive learning experience combining expert lectures, hands-on workshops and a Solar Bike Tour through the city. Participants will explore the entire BIPV process – from feasibility and concept design to manufacturing and quality aspects – while working on a shared case study and engaging with professionals from across the value chain.
Day 1 – Interactive Workshop
Hosted at the World Trade Center Rotterdam, the first day combines inspirational lectures, expert discussions and hands-on exercises. Participants will explore the complete BIPV process – from feasibility assessment and concept design to manufacturing, quality and safety aspects – while working collaboratively on a shared case study and exchanging perspectives across disciplines.
Day 2 – Solar Bike Tour
The second day takes participants out into the city with a guided Solar Bike Tour through Rotterdam. By visiting selected BIPV projects and iconic buildings, participants will apply the design, manufacturing, construction and stakeholder perspectives introduced during the workshop, connecting theory with real-world examples.
Course Objectives and Benefits
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) as a construction element and learn how to address the key challenges across the design and delivery process. Through lectures, interactive exercises and real-world case studies, the course promotes cross-disciplinary collaboration and provides practical insights that can be directly applied to future projects.
