An image that went around the world: at the beginning of 2018, Elon Musk launched his car into space. After giving new impetus to space travel with SpaceX, thanks to Tesla the entrepreneur has made electric vehicles sexy. Photograph: spacex.com

Series of publications by Hochparterre on solar architecture – September 2018

Technology and architecture are inseparable

  • The technological houses of Freiburg and Chigny
  • The Machine in the City – Photoshoot on the Lloyds of London
  • Speaking of buildings and machines

Architects like to hide solar installations behind roof edges or layers of paint. This thematic notebook wants to go further. It asks: what happens by putting solar technology on display? What happens by giving it an active role in the characterisation of a building? It is a journey in search of houses old and new, ancient and modern, buildings that are also machines. A journey towards technological inventions. A journey towards architects, who do not think of technology as mere design and supporting structure.

The publication is not available in English, but is available in German, French and Italian as a print or PDF version.
