Information

After a fire in 2022, the iconic mountain station designed by renowned architect Mario Botta was redesigned with a modern solar facade. The aim was to integrate renewable energy production into the existing design in an aesthetic and functional way. Thanks to innovative facade modules from 3S, it was possible to realise a solution that not only meets the building’s energy requirements, but also blends harmoniously into its characteristic architecture.

Technical challenges

The glass-glass modules offer not only a high energy yield, but also extreme resistance to Alpine weather conditions. Thanks to the frameless design, the facade remains largely free of snow and deposits, ensuring constant electricity production even in the winter months.

The conditions at an altitude of almost 3,000 metres posed demanding challenges for construction and installation. Strong winds of up to 260 km/h required a special fastening technique with three to four times as many anchor points as standard designs.
