Key highlights of the Swiss BIPV market, illustrating the role of integrated solar systems, the presence of local manufacturers, and the distribution of product types across facade, roof, and external applications.
After mapping the European solar building materials industry, this analysis turns to Switzerland and its BIPV ecosystem.
Switzerland is emerging as one of the most dynamic contexts in Europe for solar building materials and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). A new study developed by SUPSI within the European research project MC2.0 – Mass Customization 2.0 for Integrated PV (MCDUE) provides an overview of the Swiss BIPV ecosystem, analysing both industrial supply and market development.
Switzerland hosts 13 manufacturers of solar building materials, employing around 260 people and forming a specialised ecosystem that connects industry, research institutions and the construction sector.
Market data show a steady expansion of photovoltaic installations in buildings. In 2024, solar-integrated systems represented about 7.6% of the building PV market by number of installations, with 117 facade systems installed with tilt angles above 75°.
The analysis also highlights the influence of national incentives and regional construction dynamics, showing how different cantonal contexts create varying opportunities for BIPV adoption across Switzerland.
